How To Leverage AI In Your Recruitment Strategy

By Ashley Paskill on February 7, 2026

Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has become a huge topic of conversation in recent years. Lately, it has been a tool in a wide variety of spaces. In some ways, it may even be able to help you with your recruiting process. While you still need to be a part of the process to include a human touch, you can use AI to make your recruitment process even better.

Skills assessments

Many job search sites, like Indeed, already have assessment tools built into the site. If you use sites like Indeed, utilize these assessments as AI can help you determine objectively who is qualified for your job. Consider adding AI-powered skills assessments to your website if candidates apply through your company site. This way, candidates do not have to go elsewhere to complete the assessment, and the application is more streamlined.

Avoid resume scanners

AI resume scanners can be useful, especially if you have a lot of applications to sort through with very little time, but these tools can do more harm than good. Candidates know that these scanners emphasize keywords and purposefully do things to trick them into pulling their application to the top of the pile. This can leave you feeling frustrated with the lack of quality candidates. Instead, skip resume scanners and opt for other tools, or simply sort through resumes yourself.

Eliminate bias

In this day and age, it is more important than ever to try to eliminate bias and embrace diversity as much as possible. From resume readers to AI-powered writing software, AI can help you eliminate biases you may have when it comes to recruiting talent. You may not be able to tell, but your job description may have some unintentional bias. When you are looking at resumes, you may be biased based on a variety of criteria. Using AI tools can help you reduce the impact of your biases and allow you to have a more diverse team to work with.

Chatbot communication

Your applicants are busy. They may be working another job while they are hoping to get a new job. If your candidates are students, they have classes and student organizations. As such, they may be applying for your open positions after business hours. This can provide a challenge if they come across a question or difficulty when applying for the job. Having a chatbot with built-in can help them get on-the-spot help as they are applying. If your chatbot does not have a specific answer, they can leave their contact information for you to contact them during business hours.

Account for errors

While AI has come a long way in a short period of time, it still has a lot of progress to make. It is in no way perfect or a substitute for human eyes. AI needs a lot of data to be completely accurate, and it is not there yet. These inaccuracies can impact your business, making the candidates the AI tools find less qualified for your roles. When you use AI, do so with caution, checking its work and going over the candidates with your own eyes and knowledge.

Identify goals and challenges

AI can be useful, but it should not replace the human employees on your team. Instead, it should be a tool to help maximize your company’s efficiency and productivity. Before you even delve into utilizing AI, take a look at the goals and challenges you want AI to help you accomplish. Whether it is shortlisting potential candidates or optimizing your job descriptions, having specific tasks and challenges for AI to accomplish can help you streamline its use while maintaining the human touch of your recruitment process.

Train your team

AI tools are relatively new, so not everyone on your team may be familiar with these tools, especially if your employees tend to be older. Take some time to train your HR employees on the effective use of AI during recruiting. If you are not familiar with the tools yourself, see if you can find a local expert to come in and provide the training. This will help your team effectively use AI tools during the recruitment process and do so with confidence.

Stay updated on AI news

AI is constantly changing. From new tools to updated regulations, there are constant updates to the world of AI. This may include specific updates and best practices when it comes to using AI as a recruitment tool. It is important to stay in the loop of these changes if you plan on using AI for recruitment purposes. It is essential to remain legal, ethical, and unbiased while using these tools. Following AI experts, as well as HR professionals, can help you learn more about AI practices in the workplace.

AI is constantly changing and can be a great tool for recruitment if it is used properly and ethically.
